Ying Zhou

School Board Candidate

Ying Zhou was born in China and has been living in Vancouver since 2009.  She graduated in Chemical Engineering in China. Her work experience includes more than a decade in major financial institutions in China and as a team member of RBC Wealth Management in Vancouver.
Ying Zhou has been an Elected Resident Director of the University Neighbourhoods Association (UNA) for 5 years and is currently serving as Chairperson of the board. The UNA is an organization that provides municipal-like services for the residents on the UBC campus.  She has also served as a Vice-Chairperson of the UNA Multicultural Committee since 2012 and chaired the following committees in the UNA: Audit and Finance Committee,  Civic Engagement Committee, and the UBC Wesbrook Place Advisory Planning Committee.  Additionally, Ying is a strong supporter of the UNA Seniors’ Programs.
Ying is a devoted mom to her two daughters, one at UBC and one in elementary school. She was a co-chairperson of the Parent Advisory Council of the University Transition Program from 2013 to 2015. She is passionate about education. Ying has a particular concern that our education system should provide opportunities for the diverse needs of all children. She recognizes this is a huge challenge with financial implications, but, in our increasingly complex world, education should be given top priority. A well- educated population is an investment in our future.
Besides English and Mandarin, Ying speaks some Cantonese and French. Her multi-cultural profile makes her an ideal catalyst for bridging the gap between long-time residents and newcomers.
Interests apart from her volunteer work include reading,  badminton, swimming, and skiing.
